Cross-country skiing in Hemavan and Tärnaby
With its reliably snowy location in the Västerbotten mountains, Hemavan and Tärnaby have everything it takes to create a cross-country paradise.
Enjoy the tranquillity
Explore 40 km of prepared, floodlit tracks and an almost unlimited number of winter trails. The Kungsleden trail has its official starting point in Hemavan, just a few hundred metres from Hemavans Högfjällshotell. Hemavan’s 10 km track at Kobåset is a magnificent experience in an incredible landscape.
If you’re short of equipment, the ski rental shops have everything you need.
2.5 km. Floodlit track. Skate and classic. Medium difficulty.
7.0 km. Storbäcken track. Daylight track. Skate and classic. Medium difficulty, good fitness track in a forest setting.
11 km. Kobås track in Hemavan, daylight track. The track starts and finishes at the top of Centrumliften in Hemavan. The track then heads towards Kobåset, above the treeline, and must be one of Sweden’s most stunning ski tracks. Recommended in fine weather. Get here either via the lift or by taking the ski track up from Fjällparken. Skate and classic. Medium difficulty, a wonderful experience in the mountains when the weather is fine.
3.3 km. Skate and classic. Medium difficulty.
5.0 km. Skate and classic. Tough, hilly.
10 km. Skate and classic. Tough, hilly. At the highest point of the track, skiers are rewarded with incredible views of Gäutan lake and Ryfjället peak.
